Children's games

Hello all,
I was just wondering if anyone had any interesting stories about things that their children played. I know there has to be something with my daugter from a previous life about losing a child. She loves babies up until they are about 3-4 years old, then she wants nothing to do with them. She is only 9 and her entire life whenever there was a smaller child around she would mother them to death! One night my mother was telling her and her younger brother about how some babies die after being born and Brittany was just staring and listening and she just comes out and says "Oh, I know how that feels." I have questioned her about it, but she doesn't know anything. She also tells me that I am "The best mommy she has ever had." She doesn't know why she says that.
Anyway, I was thinking back the other night about games I would play as a child. I haven't been able to remember any distinct past lives, only things like a still picture of something. Anyway, my favorite thing to play was "boat". I went so far as to bring the mattress down from my room into the living room and brought all my stuffed animals down and we were all on the mattress floating on the ocean. I wouldn't let any of the animals go over the edge, no legs or anything could be over the edge.
Then one night when I was about 6-7 I was laying in bed with my Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. They were my children. I don't particularly like babies, I like them when they are about 5 and up. Anyway, they were my children adn there was a war going on around us and I was holding on to them while hiding. In my "fantasy" someone found us, but it was someone who wasn't going to hurt us and I knew that. But who it was I have no idea.
I got started on this topic because of the one below about the drawings. I used to draw pyramids. I don't feel any particular attraction to Egypt or anything, but on occasion my mother will tell me that I look Egyptian. I think my daughter was something in the line of pharoahs or something because the one day she had the neighbor boy pulling her in the wagon while she sat on a chair on top of a large dog carrier with a towel wrapped around her shoulders.
Ok, sorry so long!
Kathy

One time, my middle daughter was playing that she had the mumps. I typed it as it was happening.

There is no such thing as too many books. Too few bookcases can become a problem, however.

Kathy, if you read a recent post by Alisande, you'll see my response about my daughter's playacting about taking her stuffed toys to "the common".

Another thing she did continously when she was younger was the act of putting her stuffed toys and dolls to bed - she'd use her old crib blankets, hankies I'd given her, etc. as blankets and use whatever odds and ends she could find as the pillows. The act of putting them to bed seemed much more of interest to her than other playacting things like pretending to feed these toys a meal. I used to wonder if she was remembering a past life in which she was responsible for taking care of a number of people - like a nurse in a hospital ward with young children to tuck in at night?

She'd also playact with bunching up those old crib blankets in such a way that she'd make a tunnel of sorts, and then she'd call the tunnel some sort of made-up word. Never knew what the word meant, but it sounded like "trow-add" the way she said it. I used to wonder if that was some foreign word she somehow knew! And she'd gather up her toys and say she was taking them to the "trow-add" - it was quite a ritual with her for over a year.

As for me, I don't recall much about my earliest play, but as I got a little older I always liked to make people shapes out of clay or pipe cleaners. I don't think it was anything I saw in a craft magazine, I just liked to do it. And you know those rides in aumsement parks and ski resorts in which the cable cars are suspended in the air and go back and forth from one place to another? I used to tie long lengths of yarn together to make a pulley, attach this from my bed to my sister's bed, tie a small wicker basket to it and then put some pipe cleaner people in the basket. Then I'd pretend these were people going on a cable car ride; I really enjoyed this. That going back and forth action seemed like fun. (When I got older and went on that sort of amusement park ride, I enjoyed it)

Even when I was an adult and my husband and I were moving to a second floor apartment, I suggested to my husband that we rig up some sort of pulley to haul things up to our apartment. The building wasn't enclosed - ie when you walked outside the 2nd floor units there was a walkway with a railing that led to the staircase down. So a pulley, indeed, could have been used to hoist things up and over the railing to our apartment. But no, we just carried things up the stairs instead.

So it seems I have a lifelong fascination with pulleys and perhaps other engineering aspects. I used to faithfully ask for an Erector set every year for Christmas, but never got one. My parents are decidedly un-science-minded, and I was a girl growing up in the 60's - so it may not have occurred to them that I really did want it!

Hello bishopk,
My daughter loves to play with her babies too. She is such a little mother. Whenever she takes one in the car she shields its eyes from the sun and everything. We were at a family reunion in early Aug and there was a 3 month old baby there and she was holding her while sitting down and someone remarked how she even has the "mother bounce" already! There were so many young mothers that lost small babies and young children years ago. It is sad to walk through an older cememtery and see all the small stones with lambs on them.
One other thing that she did that used to make me think she was my grandfather was when we would sit her on the bed with my bedridden grandmother when she was only between 6-12 months old and she would babble away to her. She wouldnt do that to anyone else except her. But then with doing my family tree and things I wonder who she really might have been before. I used to think she was my grandfather because I got pregnant with her 8 months after he died, and then I got pregnant with my son 3 weeks after my grandmother died and I swear he is her! Way to many similarities!
So, of course after my father died my mother looked at me and said "You better not get pregnant!"

I'm sorry you didn't ever get your erector set. I too have always loved building blocks and legos and such, but they would all be spread out in front of me and I wouldn't have the faintest idea what to build. Mostly I built pyramids. I know what you mean though about having parents that didn't think the same way. I always wanted a microscope. I was fascinated with them. I knew very early on that I wanted a job in the medical field. My mother absolutly hated me because I would have bug bites and would itch them and then when there would be a scab I would pick it off to look at the under side of it. I was in about kindergarten when I started doing this. I was also fascinated with blood and how it clots. I guess that is why I draw blood for a living today!

Thank you both for repling Galadriel and bishopk. Both are very fascinating stories.
When looking back at my own childhood with the knowledge that I have now, it is amazing what things were there that could have been brought out or researched at the time. I have been getting lots of orbs on pictures lately and I started looking through my older photo albums and I am amazed at how they were overlooked before until you start to train yourself to see them. I guess it is the same with past lives. Once you train yourself to remember them, they come easier. I jsut wish I could remember something definite.
BTW - Galadriel - that quote says it all! I love it!
Kathy
PS: I love pipe cleaner men! My mom still has a small one that I made as a child! That thing is at least 20 years old!
