Answers for a sceptic

FYI, I live in Cleveland and recently went to the Rock Hall (if anyone wants to say hi while visiting, feel free!) Right now, Eddie Cochran's guitar is on loan somewhere else. I thought of this thread while looking at the sign where it would've been there...

Darn about the guitar, it is featured on the frontpage of the site, and when I saw it I thought of this thread.

Love your town, by the way. The museum is awesome. I will return one day. Thing is, my kiddo has no interest in rock n roll so I guess I will have to wait until she is older, LOL ...

I like the Rock Hall too, but it's really expensive (comparatively speaking- this is Cleveland, not NYC!) My boyfriend and I went this MLK Day, where it's free every year. We didn't have a whole lot of time to spend there, so that's probably why I enjoyed it more as a kid when I could spend the whole day with my grandma looking at the Beatles exhibits. (Actually, it was my obsessions as a kid with the '50s-'60s-'70s that made the concept of past lives sensible to me).

I liked the RRHOF, but certain parts of it unnaturally upset me so much that my boyfriend was making fun of me (namely, certain glaring omissions...) Also, there's this video in a theater there ("Mystery Train") that implied music was nothing but Perry Como in the 1950s before rock 'n roll came along. I wanted to scream, "HELLO?! Big band! Jazz! Swing!!" (PL thing there?) : angel There's also another video that implies that rock 'n roll IS sex. (Not just contains it. IS). One, that's a really awkward video to watch with one's grandma as a kid, and two, I wanted to say, "But it's so much MORE than that! It's about the MUSIC! Fun! Feelings! Anger! Sadness! Happiness! Love! Loss! ARGH! Why don't they get it?!" (That movie may be gone now. I didn't see it).

Hi Scottish Dad.

Thanks for posting all this. I wonder what would happen if you threw the name "Gene Vincent" out at your son. Gene was a singer from that era and was in the same car crash that killed Eddie C. though Gene survived that crash. Gene Vincent (born as Vincent Eugene Craddock ) passed on October 12, 1971.

Gene Vincent has already been mentioned by my son, in one of his "flashback" moments. He said that he is tired of Gene's mood swings, and tempers, he has told him to get his bad leg seen to, when pressed he said amputation would be best cure, but Gene wouldn't have it. My son talks as if it's in present tense, not in past, he feels he is a calming influence on Gene as his drinking can get out of control trying to dull the pain in his damaged leg. He mentioned that Gene was on medication too, so drink and drugs not a good combination, amazing what you can find out in those fleeting "moments"

 Thanks for the replies. I love hearing about your son's memories. I wonder where his guitar is on loan to. Wouldn't it be wonderful if it was in your country?

It would be great if guitar was closer to home, in this country would be great, could go along and see it. I think I mentioned before on here someplace that Gene Vincent was born on 11th Feb 1935, whereas my birthday is 11th Feb 1953, year is just transposed, thought that was more than coincidence!

I called the Hall of Fame and left a message, also sent an email. I will let you know if I get a reply.

A little update, my son's 21st birthday has passed, same age he was when he died in his previous life, (relief) no ill effects. As we thought it appropriate, we got him a Gretsch guitar Eddie Cochran Signature, exact copy of Eddies guitar. When he opened case it was in he exclaimed "you got my guitar back" what do you say to that. We just matter of factly talk to him as Eddie when we can, he generally answers us as Eddie, like other day we were in car, CD was playing a Fats Domino song. I asked him if he ever played with him? He said no, but I knew him. That's way all conversations go now, we just drop questions in while talking. His mother and I just accept it now, as does his girlfriend, we can't all be nuts, can we? Afraid to ask more probing questions in case it upsets the apple cart, and he represses his other "side" Quite enjoying it now, interesting too listen to him. :D

That's good news!

I'm in my death year this year and I've got the willies.

Glad everything turned out ok! I've been enjoying reading your thread.

I am really glad things are going well for your son. Do not think it is weird to communicate that way, it is like that with my girls and has been for what seems like forever, especially the oldest.

I would just let him know when you are talking to Eddie that you love talking to him and would love to learn more about his life. Bet he will be quite happy to share ... :)

If i can help in any way let me know. Happy belated birthday to your son, too :)

As has been a long time since updated, have had a lot to deal with my wife's illness, she is now totally blind and has suffered kidney failure, not easy. Anyhow, in some ways it has made my son and I closer, partners in adversity perhaps. For some reason we just talk matter of factly about his time as Eddie now. He answers questions with no sign of faltering, or pretence he doesn't know what we are talking about, funny hearing about the 50's and the friends he knew. As I say it seems to be confirmed now who he was, though nobody would believe it, if we could only prove it he could claim his guitar back from Hall of Fame.

Thanks for the update

I'm sorry to hear about your wife :(

Thank you for posting, Scottish Dad, I have wondered how things are going with you. My father-in-law suffered kidney failure and did the at home dialysis for 12 years. That was almost a decade ago, I am sure things are better now. He was not a candidate for kidney transplant. I will say a prayer for her.

I am glad you and your son are now talking openly about his life as Eddie. Are you writing things down? It may help both of you.

Can you get him to let you record him playing Eddie's songs? That would be soo cool to hear.

I hope things look up for you and for your family.

Must remove the heading "sceptic" no longer appropriate  Thank you for words of support, indeed my wife is doing home dialysis too, except I have to do it as she can't see to operate machine. She is not suitable for transplant either I'm afraid. Diabetes has caused it, what a dangerous disease. Will give updates as and when Eddie does anything special. Thank You all for your help in this matter.

I know this is a really old thread but I was thinking about him today and thought new members might love this tale, especially those who love music.

It seems our true loves don't die ... we just carry them over to a new lifetime :)

Scottish Dad I truly hope all is well with you and your son... would love to hear an update :)
