My Old Apartment's Bathroom

I lived in an apartment that had been cut out of one huge Victorian house. My family occupied the other parts of the building. We essentially lived in all 3 apartments. My boyfriend was living at my parent's apartment, which was the largest, but he spent all of his time at mine...

...except when he had to go to the bathroom. He'd always go back over to my parent's apartment. I made sure to keep my bathroom spotless, so I had no idea what his objection was, unless it was that it was a small bathroom and he's a big guy. When he finally found out that I believed in reincarnation, he finally told me, even though he's unsure of reincarnation himself.

The bathroom was small and still had the antique fixtures. the toilet was probably the newest thing in there, dating to the early 20's or so. The sink and claw foot bathtub were all original pieces.

Anyway, he told me that everytime he went in there, he felt like someone was about to come through the door and stab him to death. It was an irrational feeling, he admitted, but he felt like it would be someone he knew, and the floor would be cold tile. (As opposed to the cold linoleum? I joked.)

Some time later, he was thumbing through one of my books on police forensics, looking at old homicide photos. He suddenly wigged out a little as he looked at the brutally slashed body of a young woman in a blonde bobbed haircut on the tile floor of a bathroom that looked almost exactly like my own! She had been murdered by a jealous boyfriend. There was an instant connection as he felt like he was looking at himself "in a weird way".

He said it made him terrified and then sad, but after seeing the picture and learning the story behind it, he felt a little better about using my bathroom. Could I just make it bigger, please?

Oh, that was actually quite cute really. ^_^ The last line, really. I grew up in an old house just like that, but in that house I had more ghost experiences than past life experiences to be honest.

Heh, I was hoping you didn't think the murdered blonde was the cute part! :D

He's a little more inclined to believe in reincarnation now, but he's not necessarily a firm believer. He's currently being pestered by recurring dreams of Viet Nam. It's a period that fascinates him, and we watch documentaries whenever we can. He has said that some of the newsreels really hit him in the gut. He came from an abusive home, and has PTSD from his experiences. He recognizes a flashback when he sees one (and not just what we commonly refer to as a flashback, but a full-blown losing-touch-with-the-current-day psychological flashback). I mention this only because one of the newsreels gave him a bonafide flashback. Bullets started flying and his hand reached down quickly to the side of his easy chair. He was grasping desperately for something. When I asked him what he was looking for, he snapped out of it. He did remember, however, that he was trying to find his M-16.

I firmly believe, and he sort of believes, that he was a US soldier who died in Viet Nam. He periodically has dreams about being shot in the back while running for the choppers. The bullet would have entered right where he has his surgery wound (from the abuse, he had to have spinal cord surgery). Half the time he swears it's pain in his back infringing on his dreams. But the other half of the time he wonders how normal it is to have a recurring identical dream.

He has promised, the next time he has this dream, to try to get some details. But he says in the dream he's more than a little panicked. (He's always been a little envious of my ability to dream lucidly and stop the action to get all the details I want, usually.)

I haven't yet told him of my past life doing a suicide experiment to avoid the draft. I should probably wait until he's finally one way or the other on reincarnation lest he think I'm nuts.

He doesn't take to regression therapy, but I'm getting him into some meditative techniques. He just has to make sure he doesn't trip across anything that messes with what his psych therapist has accomplished. He's got enough problems with his current life, he doesn't need a past one screwing things up!

(No, I don't think he can work through his problems through a past-life experience. His problems have stemmed from a current-life abusive, alcoholic father and a mother who refused to do anything to stop it, believing that you don't air the family's dirty laundry, you just give the kids a cookie to make them feel better afterwards.)

I know the part about the alcoholic Father, but it never really impacted me much, my Father would be away and stationed at different USAF bases and when he was at home on leave, he managed (I think) to stay sober because of my Grandmother who was a staunch former WCTU member dating from the Prohibition time!

And since my family per se had been the ONLY ones to live in this house, and since I had never had a Past Life (PL) in this house, I had no Deja vu experiences while I was there (from 1 to 22 years of age), and while I felt at ease there, I later chalked that up to the accumulated energy of the many family members who had lived (and died) there, down through the years, even though the old house was only about a half century or more old when I was a child there.

In fact (as another poster noted) I had more encounters with ghosts there more than anything else, and as a young child I remember seeing the ghost of my Great-Grandmother in the very same Bedroom that she died in!
