Synchronicity and reincarnation

I am wondering about the meaning of synchronicities and their relevance to past lives. A synchronicity as defined by Carl Jung is a meaningful coincidence of two separate events which cannot be explained by direct causality. Although I do believe that real coincidences are completely random and are caused by chance, I think that synchronicities are worthy of further investigation eg. Precognitive dreams about relatives dying or about 9/11 etc.

One uncanny synchronicity that occurred in my family seems to have a direct link to reincarnation which I will share here. After my parents got divorced my father had a girlfriend whose daughter was killed in a car accident. For privacy reasons I will call her Hannah here. Hannah died of multiple internal injuries after the car she was a passenger in crashed into a tree while being persued by police. This was 1996 and she was about 15 or 16 at the time. Before Hannah died my dad says he can remember lying in bed with his former girlfriend, she was lying on his right hand side and whispered into his right ear
“Hannah’s a bit strange, she really loves men and that’s quite unusual for a girl her age.”

About five or six years after she had been killed in either 2000 or 2001 my dad went to see a massage therapist to get the tension out of his shoulders and back. The masseuse gave massages in his own home and was not at a spa or anthing like that. Anyway while my dad was waiting for the masseuse to get ready a small girl with blond hair of about 5 or 6 came into the room in which he was waiting. She had a huge grin on her face and was unusually interested in my dad. My dad had a very strange feeling that he knew this girl from somewhere and had an enormous sense of déjà vu. When the masseuse came back into the room my dad asked him what his daughter’s name was to which he replied “Hannah”. This sent shivers down my dad’s spine and began to realize why he may have had the déjà vu. The masseuse then proceeded to work on my dad’s back and shoulders during which he said into my dad’s right ear “Hannah’s a bit strange, she really loves men and that’s quite unusual for a girl her age.” From that moment any doubt he had about where he might have known the little girl from vanished.

I wonder what causes synchronicity and what its role in reincarnation is. Any ideas?
While you can’t investigate synchronicity in a scientific manner the odds of things like this happening would have to be greater than chance would allow.

So my question is whether anybody else has experienced any moments of synchronicity relating to their own past lives or somebody else’s past life or reincarnation which has either confirmed things they previously thought about about past lives or added a few more missing pieces to the puzzle of reincarnation. I’d love to hear what other people think!

Yes, I have a somewhat similar story. About a year or two after my father died, some friends of mine (who coincidentally live in the house I used to share with my father throughout my teens) had a little son. I often would look at him and wonder and he was always very interested and affectionate towards me, was very clever at maths and obviously highly intelligent beyond his years, and loved 'making things' - so far, big deal.

However, when my father was on his death bed in hospital, when all his children and grandchildren were gathered around, I got everyone to hold up their hands and show them front and back and my father did the same. It was just a funny sort of moment. We all have these unusually long fingers and large hands and feet - it seems to be a very dominant gene and we all got it from him. Although we might all have different hair colour or whatever, that is a very distinctive family feature. It was a fairly light-hearted moment on an otherwise quite sad day.

So, anyway one day when I was visiting these friends of mine the little boy was about four or so. He was sitting eating his apple or something and he suddenly looked at me very intently, then slowly smiled, held up his hand and slowly rotated it to show the front and back, in the exact same gesture that we all did that day, the day before my father died. (No he does not have unusually long fingers - it was the gesture that was the same and an odd thing for a little kid to do out of the blue).

His mum looked at him and asked what he was doing because it seemed a funny thing to do and she was concerned he was being impolite or something. He just grinned and said 'nothing' then kind of winked at me and gave me a very knowing look. From then on I was utterly convinced he was my father. Up until then I had had my suspicions, but that day I knew. I have not made a big deal out of it. He is very loved and well-cared for and it is comforting for me to know that he has such lovely parents and will never lack for anything material or emotional (I certainly hope touch wood, etc).

Sadly his father died a couple of years ago in an accident at around the same age that my own father lost his father too, which was a bit of bad luck, but also highly coincidental. I have not seen the little boy for a while. I wonder how he is getting along? I was more friends with his father than his mother and have sort of lost touch as she is always frantically busy (being a single mum now) and catches up with her own friends when she has a minute to spare. I should go and see them one day soon anyway though!

However, interestingly, even though I am perfectly convinced he has reincarnted, I still get the odd 'telegram' from my father's spirit, particularly when feeling troubled about something I will feel his comforting presence - whether this is wishful thinking or otherwise, I don't know.

Thank you both for a pair of heart-warming and touching stories. While I've never had anything like this happen to me, I have to believe that it's your loved one's spirits trying to reconnect in some way. And for that reason Tanguerra, I have no doubt that your father's memory, which you have kept alive, has kept the two of you spiritually connected.

Goodness I have goosebumps!!! Those are fabulous stories and I'm so happy you shared them with us!!

In more recent years, I've become a a big believer in these types of synchronicities, but I don't have any stories relating to reincarnation - just day-to-day life. However, I will think on that and see if maybe I do, just not at the forefront of my mind at the moment.

I can't wait to read more of these types of stories! :)

P.S. Tanguera ... in either Journey or Souls or Destiny of Souls, there is a section about the soul "dividing" into a part that incarnates and a part that stays in the soul group. If this theory is correct, (and I don't really have an opinion), maybe that would explain how your reincarnated father could still contact you "from the other side." (I paraphrased the theory, as it's been awhile since I read it ... so don't take any of what I said as verbatim.)

Thanks Moondansyr.

I am not a big believer in the soul's need to 'divide' in order to get around. It is quite possible of course, but I see it somewhat more diaphonously and diffuse, being non-dimensional and not 'attached' necessarily or 'contained' by the body and not operating in 3D land - but I know what you mean.

At one level a certain amount of 'longing' will conjure up the 'feeling' of my father, other times it might be just the straight memory of his voice and what he would probably be saying if he could give me advice on something, other times there is an undeniable feeling that he is 'there' (somewhere?) walking with me, sort of floating about somewhere nearby.

I am convinced that my soul/spirit is whizzing about getting up to all sorts of things while my body is asleep. (Sometimes I am not sure it is giving me 100% of its undivided attention on various tasks at hand when I am awake for that matter!).

Great stories I thought new members might like to look at!

I look forward to your comments on these ! :)

If we look at the mind/body/spirit as holographic, we are all connected. They say there are only six degrees of separation between one individual and another. Imagine the possibilities when reincarnation is considered. : angel IMO a much better form of research is needed regarding consciousness ...and the LIGHT. These two can be scientifically investigated.

This is an interesting thread, because I've long been curious about synchronicity, symbols, tarot, astrology, and a long list of divination techniques. There seems to be a common thread throughout, which indicates the possibility that all of these are related versions of how we subconsciously perceive the collective knowledge of the universe. Whether these are messages, specifically sent to particular individuals as needed, or that they may be passive road signs, which occur as simple by-products of the holographic universe; one might find it possible, somehow, to determine.

Recent documentaries and articles about the Bible Code have caused some to consider that any method of divination could work; even if the technique is contrived on the spot by any novice; as long as it is complicated and uniform. The complexity of the method devised would be important, only to prevent the conscious mind from influencing the message. And it seems to matter that the practice be conducted only for people, who are unknown to the practitioner, lest knowledge of the subject wrongly influences the results. It also seems to matter that a practitioner be "pure of heart", lest the interpretations lead to negative results. A negatively inclined shaman, for example, might divine that someone visiting a village is to blame for recent bad luck, and could cause the visitor to be injured or killed as a result.

The art of divining for water, or "dowsing" is an accepted practice of locating water sources throughout the world. There are even people living in the so called Bible Belt of America, who openly use the services of such people, because their results have proven more accurate than most other methods, except Ground Penetrating Radar, which may be too expensive for the average independent farmer. Dowsers have often suggested that their practice is really a result of their subconscious mind, and that the dowsing rod is only reacting to the subtle hints that the handler isn't consciously aware of.

It may just be possible that synchronicity and watching for "signs" or symbols may operate in the same manner. Such devices as I-Ching, palm-reading, tea leaves and even Ouija boards may simply be ways of eliminating the conscious earth-bound mind from the equation. The positive or negative results of any method may depend upon the quality of soul that the practitioners possess; and it may be very dangerous, for just anyone to use these methods as entertainment.

Perhaps, the only safe method of investigating these possibilities may be achieved, by observing whether the results of several qualified practitioners are identical. If the results of a single question during the experiment are common among several separated practitioners each using different methods; then it may be possible to accept this theory on some level. And, if the results of 100 such experiments are the same; then, science would have to bow to this theory.

Does anyone know of any academic investigations that have been performed for this purpose? I know that Duke University and Stanford have conducted numerous experiments designed to investigate psychic phenomenon. But, has any institution ever examined the divination phenomenon?

HI,

What comes to mind at the moment is the work of Charles T. Tart Ph.D. a Professor at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, CA.

He also started a group and maintains the site for The Archives of Scientists Transcendent Experiences. or TASTE.

MIND SCIENCE is based on a workshop at the country's leading scientific conference on the study of consciousness, held bi-annually at the University of Arizona at Tucson. Tart's jovial and wide-ranging style makes MIND SCIENCE suitable reading for intelligent lay people with a practical and scientific inclination, as well as for the academically- and scientifically-trained students of consciousness and related fields.
I would definitely say that his work helps with the studies of life after death and past life recall. :cool Consciousness is - at least to me - a leading factor for who we are, where we are, and why we are. ;)

Deborah, finding the synchronicity thread you brought forward this morning was an incredible synchronicity! Please bear with this seemingly pointless story.

I have been watching a very funny British TV series called 'Chances Are'. It's about a man who is plagued by weird synchronicities. I watched the first episode last night. It was called 'Plumstones', and it was the way the writers explained synchronicity to the viewers, probably in the 70's, before the concept was well known. A plum stone is the rock-like seed in the center of a plum. The character, Tom Chance, says that when you make plum crumble (like apple crisp), no matter how hard you try, you inadvertently leave in one "stone", and the same person gets it every time.

A few days ago I baked a "Lumberjack" cake. It contained pitted dates from a health food store. I also chopped the dates. I had the last slice for breakfast this morning. I bit down on the "plum stone"! (date pit, a big one) Then I got on line, and here's the synchronicity thread. The examples above are profound, and this one is silly, but evidently the universe has a sense of humor! typing

LOLO I think we are most open - when we laugh. typing

I see 1:11 and 11:11 all the time these days. Does it mean something? Maybe.

Okay, I just told my husband and sister-in-law about biting down on the "plum stone." They agreed the odds seemed rather astronomical that it would happen. Then, I picked up a stack of books I bought weeks ago at a used-book store. The one on the top was 'the Three Only Things' by Robert Moss. It's about dreams and synchronicity in the universe. OMG The universe is "playing" with me. Maybe I'm being "punked".typing

Today I was searching abebooks.com for titles I wasn't aware of containing information about Johnstown. One of the books listed was a collection of short stories for boys. It was the same book I picked up at a local thrift store last weekend and put back on the shelf.

I am keeping my fingers crossed it is still there :)

All I can think is you better get reading that book missy! It must have an important message for you!

I started reading it, Wonder. It's a warm, funny, wise book, and I recommend it to everyone! The author said that there is a "library spirit" who pushes books off shelves for us, or puts them in our hands! I really believe that. Get that book, Mamma!

He also told a story about sitting next to a large, black standard poodle on a plane. I sat next to two yesterday, while having coffee at Pannera Bread! They were gorgeous, well-behaved service animals, and I didn't realize they were there until the owner stood up to leave! I haven't seen a black standard poodle in years, and certainly haven't "taken tea" with two in a restaurant. typing

I am headed back there tomorrow. I think maybe someone wants their story in my book, too :)

The three onlys

Thank you for the recommendation BriarRose! I downloaded it this morning and I'm really enjoying it.

I was a different thrift store today. There were three copies of the same book side by side. It was about emigrants coming to the USA. Searching the glossary I found Johnstown, PA listed. In it was an account of a person arriving in 1907 from Hungary.

Her thoughts, paraphrased were that this was a dirty town with a bad smell full of very hard work and poor living conditions. BUT at the same time through hard work they could have bread with jam on it, not just plain bread, something that was not available in her town. She had come here to earn a dowry for herself and her three sisters.

Although her name was not mentioned I have no doubt she wants to be included in the book, too. I will make sure of it. :)

Thanks to the bookshelf fairy. If there were not three copies of the same book I would not have noticed it.

I see 11:11 constantly too! & just a few minutes ago... I think it's strange. I've tried to search it on here and no one's really posted about it. Surely it means something?

There was another time, a couple of years ago, where I was fantasizing about what would have happened to me if I had survived the concentration camps from my last life. Even though I don't know who I was, I've always felt I died young. Anyway, I was imagining myself lying in my bed, dying as an old man. My family that I never had was surrounding me. My wife was by my side, children, and grandchildren too. I saw my great grand kids being brought into my bedroom for just a few moments; they were too young to stay. I felt very calm and peaceful.

This whole time I had my radio on a classical music station, and this beautiful piece that had been playing ended. The announcer spoke "And that was called 'Into the Light...'"

I can't help but to wonder if I wasn't getting some vision of what might have been.

I posted here a few months back that I wanted to go to school and become a hypnotist and specialize in past life regression. Someone suggested JFK University in California. It seemed to be a pretty good fit! A few days later I was at the library and picked up a book on synchronicity and told myself this:

"Okay, I want you to pick a page and that's going to relate to you and help you in some way."

I choose 175. The author was discussing how he decided to get into contact with somebody from... JFK University in California!

I think I remember that discussion. I may have been one of the people who suggested JFK. Helen Wambach taught there when she was doing her reincarnation research in the 1970's. She mentioned the school in the recorded interview I have of her. Thanks for these other examples. This has sort of happened to me recently, only I was the one who received and passed on the validation of a friend's past life memories.

Reading this thread reminded me of the odd occurrences of 'deja vu' and synchronicity that come with reincarnation. I think I may have wrote about this one on another thread but thought I would share it here again as well. (Just one of the many times this has happened since 2006.)

I started writing poetry when I was 9 years old. My first poem was 'deep' and mystical and based on 'elements' of my 'near-death experiences. I showed the finished work to my Mom and she was stunned by it. I showed it to some friends my age - and I was criticized. I was told that 'guys' don't write poems and show them to other guys - so - I locked it away in a locked box my Dad had given and swore I would never again show my work to another set of eyes. When I was 18 (after amnesia) I found the locked boxed I carried the poetry in. I couldn't remember writing it. It was deep, mystical and coded in a way that my adult mind couldn't figure out. In 1988, I had a conversation with another poet from Seattle - and he asked if I could remember my first poem. I told him I couldn't remember it - but I had it written down in my lock box. He asked me to read it to him and I couldn't. I told him there was something 'sacred' attached to it. (He asked how I knew it was my first poem - and I told him I had wrote it down at the bottom of the page - my first poem.)

Fast forward to 2006 and I started recalling 'when, where' and why I wrote that poem in 1969. Spiritual sparks were flying left and right after I met a young man. I never watch TV but I was in a room that had a TV on in the background. The poem had a horse in it. When I looked up on the TV - there was a commercial with a horse in it. Every time I thought (recalled) of a different stanza in the poem - what ever I was thinking appeared on a commercial. The poem had a 'dragon bird' (phoenix) in it and a flying dragon appeared on a commercial right afterwards. Then I wanted to recall what inspired me to write this poem and I recalled it happened after a fire in a barn. The Goodyear blimp had passed over shortly before the fire and people were driving for miles - thinking the blimp had crashed. A commercial with the "Goodyear" blimp appeared on TV. (There were more - but too many to list here.) I ran outside because I was freaking out - and guess what was flying directly overhead of me at that very moment? The Goodyear blimp.

Then - I recalled that I had met a young friend in 1974 and he was the only person I had shared the poem with. He made me promise to never share it with anyone else but him. He died in 1981 and his spirit came to me in a dream. He told me that I had forgotten the origin of the poem I had shared with him but - when the day came for us to cross paths again - I would remember the poem I shared with him as kids together. Then, I would know that his 'spirit' reincarnated - would be near me again. He and I had shared a promise and spiritual pledge with one another in 1974. I would never discuss the details of that poem with anyone but him - in this life - or - the life to come.

A few days later, the young man came to me with a poem he had written. He said he had been thinking of me when he wrote it and had no idea where the words came from. He wanted to know if the poem made any sense to me. It was strange because I had asked him if he believed in reincarnation. The poem was about a 'phoenix.' There was no doubt in my mind 'whose' spirit was hidden inside the stranger that handed me the poem. When he saw the tears in my eyes - he asked if the poem had touched me. I told him in more ways that I could express in words. It was the spirit (theme) of my poem repacked (reincarnated) in different words.

I was warned (in dreams) back in 1981 - NOT to disturb the 'sleeping' spirit within when I crossed paths with him in the future. I couldn't talk to this stranger about what I knew without a doubt. The spirit of my childhood friend was hidden away inside of him.

I counted about a dozen synchronicities within 30 minutes. It got my attention, fast, quick and swift.

Sincerely,

DKing

I just recalled the details of running outside. I was shaking and freaking out. One of my friends followed me outside and when I saw the 'Goodyear' flying overhead - I started freaking out even more. He got me to sit down and I told him what was going on. I called it a profound sense of 'deja' vu. I told him that if things were happening again - there was about to be a fire off in the direction the blimp had flown off into.

Sure enough - later on, smoke starting coming up in that direction and you could hear the fire trucks racing toward the scene. My friend start freaking out then. He was asking me how I knew a fire was about to happen. Another friend went racing toward the scene and I told him if history was repeating itself - it wasn't the blimp that crashed.

There was a part of me freaking out wondering if my 'recall' had just caused a fire to happen somewhere.

It was a wild experience.

It sounds like it could have been precognitive, knowing things before they happen. Has this ever happened to you before, knowing things before they happen?

I don't think you caused the fire. Argonne is right - it was precognition. Your ability is just stronger than most people's. On a trivial note, yesterday I watched a PBS documentary about Shakespeare. Kit Marlowe was featured. Later that day, a character named "Kit", specifically after Marlowe, appeared out of the blue in a novel that I've been reading. I guess it's time for me to explore that connection. I think synchronicity occurs too frequently for it to be happenstance.

I could start a new thread, I suppose, and I would call it Always synchronicities (Because that's what I feel like I post about a lot. LOL. ) Is that a synchronicity? Anyway...

My Dad passed away last year. Don't think I've met him again, yet...not sure...but anyway, yesterday I was visiting family, and my SIL introduced me to a friend of hers. Same name as my Dad.

Then, I was with my singing group, last night, and we were at one of the singer's houses, and she had just adopted two kittens, and one of them had the same name as my Dad. My Dad's name, isn't unusual, it's just not a highly common name. I know neither the friend or kitten are my dad's reincarnation ( LOL ), but just the same, interesting synchronicity.

It would be interesting to know her past life history and why her mother chose to name her that. Maybe it IS the original Earhart reincarnated?
